Sickness linked closing the rota

Can we set up the rotas so that the week cannot be completed until the sickness in that week has been completed. As it stands at the moment, if an employee is sick and the sickness is not closed, 3, 4 even 6 months down the line when that same employee requires a holiday or sickness, it cannot be added to the rota and we have to search for the problem. It also means that sicknesses are not closed within a payroll period and the employee then does not receive SSP or company sick pay. If we can force the closure of a sickness each week prior to closing the rota, a new sickness can be opened the following week. There is already the option to link the sickness to a previous week, so long term sickness can still be accounted for, but this way we ensure there are no sicknesses left incomplete and that pay is always correct as entered on Access.
